His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana have attended a ceremony to pay homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX) at Sanam Luang, Bangkok, on the occasion of National Father’s Day and the National Day in Thailand on December 5.

At Sanam Luang on Saturday (Dec 5), His Majesty the King presided over a candle-lightning ceremony to pay homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol, who worked tirelessly for the well-being of the people and their country. Following the ceremony, Their Majesties the King and Queen warmly greeted the people who waited to observe their royal grace. Their Majesties were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Krom Luang Ratchasarinee Siripatchara Maha Watchara Ratchathida, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and Royal Noble Consort Sineenart Pilaskalayanee.

Most people wore yellow and carried the national flag as well as flags with Their Majesties’ royal emblems. A number of people also held images of His Majesty King Bhumibol, to express their loyalty and gratitude to the late King, who built a solid foundation for Thailand’s sustainable development in the fields of education, medicine and public health, while promoting sustainable management and conservation of natural resources and environment.

Their Majesties the King and Queen greeted the people and thanked them for their love and loyalty to the royal institution. Those gathered repeatedly chanted “Long Live the King” as Their Majesties passed by on their visit.

Their Majesties the King and Queen then returned to Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace, Bangkok.
