Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Krom Luang Ratchasarinee Siripatchara Maha Watchara Ratchathida has attended to royal duties in Chachoengsao province.
At 10:41 a.m. on Sunday (Dec 6), His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vjiraklaochaoyuhua assigned Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha to preside over the opening of a royal project to provide a water source for wild elephants in Tha Takiap district, Chachoengsao province. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has cooperated with the Water Resources Office, Region 6, to provide a water source for wild elephants. The project aims at preventing wild elephants from looking for food outside their natural habitat, causing damage to agricultural fields. Many elephants have also died of electrocution or been killed or injured in traffic accidents.
Relevant agencies are working together to address these issues by providing a water source in the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary and restoring the ecosystem. Construction of the water source started in March 2020, and was completed this month. The 32 hectare water source can store up to 220,000 cubic meters of water. It consists of water drainage and distribution facilities.
Between 2019 and 2022, the Department of Water Resource plans to provide 60 water sources for wild elephants in the five eastern provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo. They will be able to provide 1,837,238 cubic meters of water for wildlife in these areas.
